Each year the Environmental Working Group rates produce for the amount of pesticide residue. The dirty dozen are the fruits and vegetables with the most pesticides. In 2017 they are strawberries, spinach, nectarines, apples, peaches, pears, cherries, grapes, celery, tomatoes, sweet bell peppers, potatoes. It is safer to purchase organic.
The clean fifteen are the fruits and vegetables with the least pesticides. In 2017 they are grapefruit, cauliflower, cantaloupe, kiwi, honeydew melon, eggplant, mangos, asparagus, papayas, sweet peas frozen, onions, cabbage, pineapples, avocados, sweet corn. Some of the sweet corn, papaya and summer squash are genetically modified.
