Can nightshades cause arthritis?

June 11, 2015 By Anita Morgan 2 Comments

Nightshades, members of the solanacea family, dominate the food in America. Many of the foods that we eat are nightshades: white potatoes, tomatoes, eggplant, and peppers (except black pepper). How can these tasty foods cause pain and arthritis?

The nightshades contain chemicals that hinder cholinesterase, an enzyme produced by the brain that allows the muscles to move freely. Inhibiting cholinesterase can result in pain, swelling, stiffness, arthritis, and other bone and muscle problems.

It is interesting that tobacco is also a member of the nightshade family.

For more information, read the books by the late Dr. Norman F Childers:
Arthritis-Childers’ Diet That Stops It!: The Nightshades, Ill Health, Aging, and Shorter Life
